What’s new in Xcode

Dive into the latest key technologies and capabilities.

Xcode 26

Bring your ideas to life with generative intelligence powered by the large language model of your choice. Interact with your code using natural language in the coding assistant. Use Coding Tools to quickly write documentation, fix an issue, or make any code change, right inline. Preview your non-UI code with the Playground macro. Navigate through your file more easily with the redesigned Tab experience. And bring your app to even more people around the world with enhancements to localization catalogs.

Coding intelligence features require a Mac with Apple silicon running macOS Tahoe.
Some features, applications, or services may not be available in all regions or languages.

Instruments

Optimize your app for Apple silicon with two new hardware-assisted tools in Instruments — Processor Trace and CPU Counter. And discover the new SwiftUI instrument that allows you to visualize how changes in your app’s data affect how SwiftUI updates views.

XCUIAutomation tests

You can now record, run, and maintain XCUIAutomation tests in Xcode. Replay your XCTest UI tests in dozens of locales, device types, and system conditions using test plan configurations. Review your test results using the Xcode test report, and download screenshots and videos of your recorded runs.

Icon Composer

Icon Composer lets you create layered icons out of Liquid Glass from a single design for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. With a new multi-layer icon format, you can easily adjust Liquid Glass properties, preview with dynamic lighting effects, and annotate across appearance modes. Icon Composer is designed to work seamlessly with Xcode, and also provides the option to export a flattened version of your icon for marketing and communication needs.
