What personal data is included in iOS storage logs

While I was submitting a new feedback today for an iPhone/iPad storage issue, I saw a new log called “iOS storage log”.

I could find no reference to this when I searched online. It made me wonder if it was new and if it contained personal data?

Most of us only have one device, with all our personal data. Therefore, I’d appreciate any input on what personal data these logs contain.

You say you noticed this as part of a feedback report, so you must have attached the file to the report. Did you look in the file yourself?

Generally, log files may contain the name of the device but rarely any personally-identifiable information (PII). It's unlikely to contain your email address or name, for example, unless there's an issue with an email process.

Can you look into the file yourself, or is it encrypted?

It generates a FilesystemMeta.fsmeta container with a readme that states: “A filesystem metadata snapshot contains information necessary to investigate reports of issues with disk space”, along with a couple of commands. The .fsmeta is around 20 MB in size.

In the feedback assistant, there’s a disclaimer at the bottom stating that the logs CAN contain personal data, that’s why I am asking what personal data can they contain, not if.

My mac died, so I cannot check the full content of the container from my iPad.

If someone else wants to check, you can generate it by trying to submit a feedback and selecting the category Incorrect behavior>Settings>iPhone/iPad storage.
