Are there any details available on how Xcode 26 connects to third party model providers? For example, can Xcode only use OpenAI compatible API endpoints?

Did you try? It's right in the Settings, yes it works with other API's.
The custom model configuration inside Xcode's Coding Intelligence features is primarily built for OpenAI ChatCompletions style APIs, but we also have specific support for Claude.
We are aware that configuring third-party models has been a little challenging with certain providers. I cannot commit to anything, but if changes are made in this area, they will be noted in Xcode's Release Notes.
