Multicast Entitlement Inquiry

Hi, I had a few questions regarding the multicast networking entitlement.

  1. What are the criteria for approval?

  2. Do ad-hoc multicast protocols fall under the approval criteria?

  3. How long do approvals for multicasting generally take?

Applying for the multicast entitlement isn’t hard, and my experience is that these applications are usually processed pretty quickly (within a week or two).

However, most folks who ask for this do so because they’re implementing some sort of service discovery protocol, and my advice on that front is to try to avoid doing that if you can. It’s a bunch of extra work, work that you can avoid by adopting Bonjour. I talk about this in more detail in various posts referenced by Extra-ordinary Networking:

Would love it if that were an option for our use-case. But, we're working with a minimal network stack on the other end of the connection. So, implementing Bonjour would introduce unneeded complexity :(

Thank you for the help, Quinn!
