Publishing Swift Student Challenge App

Hello! i developed an app for the Swift Student Challenge and submitted it, can I publish it to the app store before it is judged.

In situations like this I always encourage folks to read the fine print. And the extra fine print (-: I don’t see anything in there that actively restricts you from publishing an app based on your SSC submission. And the T&Cs say it’s a nonexclusive … license.

Based on the above I asked about this internally and got a similar response: We’re not aware of anything that rules against this.

Swift Student Challenge submissions are over now, so I’m mostly posting this for the benefit of anyone who might see this next year [1]. With that in mind…

I want to remind folks of this quote from Swift Student Challenge > Eligibility page:

Create an interactive scene in an app playground that can be experienced within three minutes.

A complete iOS app, even a simple one, takes more than three minutes to experience. So don’t design a full app and submit it for SSC. Instead, design your SSC submission to be the best three minute experience.

If, later on, you want to take your code and use it as the basis of an app, that’s cool. But think of that as a separate step.

[1] Assuming that we do have a Swift Student Challenge, which I can neither confirm nor deny. Decisions like that are way above my pay grade (-:

Hello @DTS Engineer

I have submitted the Swift Student Challenge work, but there are the following two points:

  1. My program is close to a complete app. Although I have tried my best to reduce the code, the experience time of the work may exceed 3 minutes. In order to ensure that the auditor can experience the core content of the work within 3 minutes, I have put the important part at the beginning.

  2. After submission, an error (only some non-core functions) was found that did not affect the normal operation of the program but may cause some functions to be unrealized.

Excuse me, will the above situation lead to the direct rejection of the work? Will it reduce competitiveness but still have a chance to be considered? Is the regulation of "within 3 minutes a rigid regulation or a recommendation? Will the auditor extend the experience time under the premise of maintaining fairness? Although the competition has ended, I still want to know the relevant information. Thank you!

I’m not deeply enough involved in the judging process to answer those questions.
